Bear in mind that death is a taboo subject and should be treated sensitively. Begin the lesson by revising and/or pre-teaching words associated with death. Ask students to explain the difference between died (stopped living) and killed (made someone die). Write the two words on the board and give students time to think of ways of dying and ways of killing. Encourage them to work together in pairs or small groups so that they can help each other.
