A new stage in the higher education system

On February 5 of this year, under the chairmanship of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, a meeting of video selectors was held regarding the priority tasks to be implemented in the fields of education, healthcare, digitization, culture and sports in 2024. This meeting literally became an important step in finding solutions to the problems accumulated in the social sphere, in particular, in the higher education system, as well as in bringing the system to a new level.

At the meeting, at the same time, the lack of coordination between schools and universities was criticized, and specific tasks that should be implemented in this regard were defined. At this point, it should be noted that the role of higher education institutions is of great importance in improving the quality of education in general education schools in the regions, in improving educational and methodological support.

At the same time, it is true that in recent years, the coverage of higher education has increased dramatically, the private sector has entered the field, but not enough attention has been paid to quality. For example, it is a fact that the environment for independent work of students is not organized in the same way in all universities, most universities do not take into account the demands of employers, some of them lack textbooks and literature, and it is also true that all of them do not meet today's requirements. Today, these shortcomings in the higher education system are an obstacle for students to receive quality education, to work independently, and for personnel to take their place in various sectors of the economy in the future. First of all, the student should acquire sufficient theoretical knowledge at the university. This is directly related to the supply of textbooks and literature. But nowadays, the lack of these resources in some universities reduces the possibility of obtaining full theoretical knowledge. In addition, failure to take into account the needs of employers and training of personnel in fields of education that are not suitable for modern students has a great negative impact on the quality of graduates in the future. At the meeting, it was noted that dozens of undergraduate courses do not meet the requirements of the labor market. This shows that it is necessary to take a serious approach to this issue when forming admission quotas for each university.

Also, it was rightly criticized that universities have switched to the credit-module system, but there is no system that reveals the student's abilities. It shows that every leader should focus on this issue.

At the meeting, it was said that 122 new large-scale projects have been launched this year, which means that 10,000 engineers and technologists who can work in complex technology will be needed in the coming years. However, it was shown that the training of such specialists in universities does not exceed 20 percent. This means that in the future universities will have the task of training personnel in this direction. In addition, in 2024, it was decided to create an environment in our country where specialists in high-need professions such as modern constructors, technologists, architects, engineers, and energy workers will be trained.

At this meeting, the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Innovation was instructed to reduce the number of bachelor's programs by 40% due to the expansion of them, to update the educational programs in these fields based on the program of universities included in the TOP-300, to study 116 universities and develop a program for their expansion, to give them "national", " the task of determining the specific criteria for granting the status of a "state" university, academy or institute was assigned.

It is natural that the implementation of the above-mentioned tasks will be important in bringing the system to a new level. We assure you that the team of Namangan State University will work diligently to ensure the execution of these tasks within the specified time and in a high-quality manner, to train qualified personnel and to have them take their place in society.
