Kuziev Umidzhon Yandashalievich

The Department of Uzbek Language and Literature of the Namangan State Pedagogical Institute (now NamSU) was established in 1942 on the basis of the Andijan Pedagogical Institute. Initially, the department was headed by Doctor of Philology, Professor, Honored Scientist of Uzbekistan Fattokh Abdullaev. From 1947 to 1967 it was headed by Associate Professor Mirsalim Kamilovich Sharipov.

In different years, the department was headed by Doctor of Philology, Prof. attokh Abdullaev, Doctor of Philology, Professor Abdugani Aliyev, Candidates of Philology, Associate Professors Khoshimjon Sharipov, Sobirzhon Tulyakov, Adhamjon Abdullaev, Candidates of Philology Oliyakhidon Gofforova Odiljon Nosirov and others.

In 1985-1992, the department of Uzbek linguistics was headed by Doctor of Philology, Professor Boykuzi Turdaliev, in 1992-2000, Candidate of Philology, Associate Professor Tursunboy Numanov, in 2000-2013, Doctor of Philology Khurnisa Usmanova, in 2013-2014. was headed by the candidate of philological sciences, associate professor Faridakhon Karimova.

In the 1960s, the department of Uzbek literature conducted research "Problems of the individuality of the creative process and style" and years of scientific progress. In 1954, Tojiboy Gozibaev defended their dissertations, in 1961 Salokhiddin Jamolov, in 1962 Ogilkhon Azimova, and then Odiljon Nosirov, Nuriddin Bobokhodzhaev and Mukhammadzhon Zieviddinov.

In 1963, the department was divided into two departments of Uzbek linguistics and Uzbek literature.

The Department of Uzbek Literature was headed by Candidates of Philology, Associate Professors Tadjiboy Gozibaev, Ugilkhon Azimova, Salokhiddin Jamolov, Odiljon Nosirov, Mahmudjon Mamurov, Faridahon Karimova.

The department of the Uzbek language and literature in different years was headed by F. Karimova (2012-2014), Sh. Abdurakhmanov (2014-2019), N. Ulukov (2019-2020). Currently, the Department of Uzbek Language and Literature is headed by Umijon Kuziev, PhD, Senior Lecturer.

Currently, the department employs 16 professors and teachers. Of these, 2 doctors of sciences, 6 candidates of sciences, associate professors, 2 senior teachers, 6 teachers.

The department has the clubs "Young linguists", "Gazalkhan kyzlar".

Scientists of the department conducted research in the following areas:

1. About the syntax of the Uzbek language: Kh. Usmanova.

2. About the terminology of the Uzbek language: T. Numanov, M. Saidova.

3. About a new period in the history of the Uzbek language: B. Turdaliev.

4. About the lexicology of the Uzbek language: N. Ulugov, Sh. Abdurakhmonov, M. Mamadalieva, U. Kuziev.

5. About the style of the Uzbek language: M. Iminov, A. Abdullaev, D. Bobokhonova;

6. Methods of teaching the native language: M. Sabirova.

7. Onomastics: N. Ulugov, H. Solikhojaeva.

8. In the field of modern linguistics: N. Kazakova, D. Ashurov.

The department to prepare a master's degree in specialty 5A120102 –  linguistics (Uzbek language), doctoral studies in specialty 10.00.01 –  Uzbek language.

The Academic Council PhD.03 / 04.06.2020 also works. Fill.76.04, approved by the Resolution of the Higher Attestation Commission No. 159 of June 5, 2020. To defend dissertations in the specialties 10.00.01 –  "Uzbek language", 10.00.02 –  "Uzbek literature", 13.00.02 –  "Theory and teaching methods (Uzbek language)" are admitted to admission. In 2021, 3 PhD thesis, in 2022 4 PhD thesis, in 2023 4 PhD thesis were successfully defended at the council.

A scientific school was created at the department under the guidance of prof. N. Ulukova, since 2015 there has been a scientific seminar "Actual theoretical and practical issues of the Uzbek language." Under the guidance of prof. N. Ulukov will publish a scientific collection of philologists of the republic "Problemss of language and literature", a scientific collection of young researchers "Drops from the Ocean of knowledge."

Associate Professor PhD. Ibrohim Darvishov is actively engaged as a member of the Center for Uzbek Studies at the Alisher Navoi Tashkent State University of Uzbek Language and Literature, which is aligned with the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

Professor Hurnisa Usmonova, acting as the head of the "Women Scholars Association" in the Namangan region of the Republic of Uzbekistan, is currently serving in the position. She is bestowed with the Medal of Honor "Independence 25th Anniversary" and the title of "Distinguished Educator."

The Uzbek Linguistics Department organized the 3rd International Onomastics Symposium on October 26-28, 2023, with the theme "Turkic Onomastics: Achievements, Challenges, and Tasks". The symposium saw the participation of 60 scholars engaged in onomastics from Turkey, Azerbaijan, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Russia, and Uzbekistan.
