On the eve of the 34th anniversary of the independence of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the Department of Geography of Namangan State University celebrates its glorious 50th anniversary.
At Namangan State University (former Pedagogical Institute), taking into account the needs of regional secondary schools, geography teacher training began for the first time in the 1969-1970 academic year. Until that time, most of the geography teachers working in the schools of our region studied at the Fergana State Pedagogical Institute, as well as at higher educational institutions of our country and neighboring countries.
In 1969-1970 academic year, 25 applicants who successfully passed the entrance exams were admitted to the "History-Geography" teacher specialty of the newly opened secondary general education schools. Subjects related to the specialty of geography teacher in the "History-Geography" teacher training curriculum, geographers working in the "Methodology of Primary Education" department: senior teacher Yaqubjon Uzakov, Abbaskhan Nodirov, it was conducted by teachers - Tolqinboy Yoldoshev and Tursunboy Mallaboev.
In 1975, the department of geography was established at the initiative of the rector of the Namangan State Pedagogical Institute, Professor MMMamatov. The department was headed by senior teacher (later candidate of agricultural sciences, associate professor and doctor of biological sciences, professor) A. Maksudov. At the time of establishment of the department, there were 2 people with academic degrees and titles and 8 teaching teams. Under the leadership of A. Maqsudov, the members of the department conducted scientific research on the topic "Natural, economic, social and ecological conditions of regional organization and development of the productive forces of the Fergana Valley" for a long period of time.
During 1975-1985, A. Maqsudov headed the department, laid the foundation for the organization and development of educational and scientific-methodical works, training of advanced scientific-pedagogical specialists. As a result, during the leadership of A. Maqsudov, T. Mallaboev "On the system of settlements of large cities of the Fergana Valley" (1982), O. Abdullaev "Problems of regional organization of cattle breeding industries of the Fergana Valley and further improvement in the future" (1983), A. Qazokov Candidate's theses on the topic "Methods of protection of erosion-prone lands and soils in the north-western part of Namangan region" (1983) were defended and the scientific potential of the department increased.
The Rectorate of Namangan State Pedagogical Institute and Public Organizations entrusted the management of the Department of Geography to Candidate of Geography, Associate Professor T. Mallaboev. In connection with the appointment of Associate Professor T. Mallaboev as the dean of the Faculty of Geography, Biology and Sports, since 1986, the department has been managed by Candidate of Agricultural Sciences, Associate Professor A. Qazokov. During the years when A. Qazokov headed the department (from 1986 to 1992 academic year), R. Kholikov "Changes of Fergana Valley landscapes under the influence of human economic activities" (1989), M. Mominov "Uzbekistan Formation of ecological knowledge in the use and protection of water resources in the study of natural geography" (1990), H. Murodov "Deciphering the soil cover of the depressions of the Central Asian mountain ranges according to aero and space rates" (1991) candidate on the topics, O.Abdullaev doctorate on the topic "Directions of inter-republican (interstate) formation and development of agro-industry production" (1991), A. Haydarov "Formation and development of industrial nodes of the Fergana economic region of Uzbekistan" (1992), M. .Mahmudova's candidate's theses on "Development of horticulture and viticulture in the Fergana Valley and improvement of territorial organization" (1993) were defended. It is worth noting that the doctoral theses of A. Maksudov and G. Yoldoshev, who were invited to Fergana State University in 1991 and defended in 1993, are included in the above complex topic, and their scientific and research work is directly related to the geography of Namangan State University. was completed in the department.
In 1992-1998, the Department of Geography was headed by Doctor of Economics, Professor O. Abdullaev. During these years, K. Boymirzaev's dissertations were defended on "Agro-irrigation deposits of Fergana valley oasis landscapes and their rational use" (1995) and SH. Jumakhanov's "Improving the territorial structure of the population of Namangan region" (1998).
In 1999-2006, the department was headed by candidate of geography, associate professor K. Boymirzaev. Between these years, H. Mirzaakhmedov defended his candidate's theses on "Territorial organization and development of joint ventures" (on the example of Namangan region, 2003), and A. Nazarov on "Ecological-geographic basis of nature use" (on the example of Namangan region, 2004).
In 2006-2007, associate professor T. Mallaboev was appointed as the head of the department of geography. In this short period, O. Mirzamahmudov "Assessment of the landscape and ecological conditions of the hills of Northern Fergana" (in the case of Namangan region, 2007), A. Baratov "Issues of organizing water management in Namangan region and improving its efficiency" (in the case of Namangan region, 2007 ) candidacy works, and B. Kamalov successfully defended his doctoral dissertation on the topic "Active influence on hydrometeorological processes in Uzbekistan" (2007).
As a result of the establishment of the department of ecology and master's specialty at the university, the name of the department of geography was changed to "Fundamentals of geography and ecology" from May 2008. In the following years, the Department of Geography and Ecology was headed by Doctor of Geography, Professor B. Kamalov (2009), Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences, Senior Lecturer M. Mominov (2010) and Candidate of Geography, Senior Lecturer A. Baratov ( 2011-2014 years).
Since September 2014, the Department of Geography and Ecology was divided into the departments "Geography" and "Ecology and Environmental Protection". The department was headed by O. Mirzamahmudov, candidate of geography sciences, senior teacher.
In 2015-2020, associate professor H. Mirzaakhmedov worked as the head of the department of geography, in 2020-2021, associate professor K. Boymirzaev, in 2021-2022, associate professors E. Soliev, I. Soliev worked. Associate Professor B. Abdurakhmanov has been working as the head of the department since November 2022.
In the period of 2020-2023, professors and teachers of the Department of Geography received 2 doctorates of science (K. Boymirzaev, SH. Jumakhanov), 2 doctorates of philosophy (B. Abdurakhmanov. I. Mirzakhmedov) completed their scientific research and successfully defended their dissertation. 2 professors-teachers received the scientific title of professor (M. Makhmudova) and associate professor (B. Abdurakhmanov).
The department started the 2023-2024 academic year with the following professors: gfd (DSc), prof. K. Boymirzaev, gfn, prof. M. Mahmudova, gfd, (DSc) associate professor SH. Jumakhanov, gfn associate professors A. Baratov, Kh. Mirzaahmedov, E. Soliev, pffd (PhD) B. Abdurakhmanov, gm.ffd(PhD) associate professor I. Soliev, gffd(PhD) senior teacher I. Mirzakhmedov, teacher J. Makulov, I. Akaboev, intern-teachers I. Turdaliev, O. Abdurakhmanov, H. Naimov, B. Mirabdullaev.
The department prepares bachelor's degrees in 60530400-Geography, 60520200-Meteorology and climatology, and masters in 70530402-Geography (by subject of study). 11.00.01- The basic doctoral course on the specialty of natural geography is operating.
In all the scientific and research works carried out and carried out by the professors and teachers of the department, the natural landscape of the Ferghana Valley is the most densely populated area in our country, the natural landscapes have been mastered since ancient times and have been strongly changed by man, and the ecological situation is becoming tense. complexes, population, socio-economic status are analyzed and issues of their appropriate use are put forward. Scientific schools are being formed in the department in the following areas: Natural geography, landscape science and ecology (K. Boymirzaev, I. Mirzakhmedov), Economic geography and population studies (M. Mahmudova, SH. Jumakhanov, Kh. Mirzaahmedov, A. Baratov), Hydrology, meterology and climatology (E. Soliev, I. Soliev), geography education methodology (B. Abdurakhmanov). The participants of these schools are J.Makulov, I.Akaboev, M.Otamirzaeva, Kh.Naimov , I.Turdaliev are conducting scientific research work for Doctor of Philosophy.
So far, 7 doctors of science and professors, 16 candidates of science and associate professors have graduated in the Department of Geography. More than 1200 scientific and methodical works, including more than 15 monographs, 45 training manuals, 60 methodical manuals and recommendations, more than 1000 scientific, methodical and popular articles were published in various publications of our country and abroad.
In October 2023, the Department of Geography will hold an international conference on "Geography Science and Digital Economy: Problems and Prospects", in February 2024 in cooperation with the Departments of Geography Education Methodology of Blagoveshchensk State Pedagogical University under the Ministry of Education of the Russian Federation and Moscow State Pedagogical University. organized an international conference on "current problems of school education".
The Department of Geography held discussions as a leading organization based on the proposal of the Specialized Scientific Councils operating in the field of Geography in our Republic and gave conclusions related to the scientific works of about 20 researchers.
Professors and teachers of the department are also achieving positive results in organizing foreign scientific internships and traveling skills training. In particular, associate professor of the department B. Abdurakhmanov was on a research internship at AI Herzen Russian State Pedagogical University in 2019, and in 2022 associate professors At the Kazakh State Pedagogical University named after K. Boymirzaev, I. Soliev Abay, during 2021-2024, associate professors Kh. Mirzaakhmedov, B. Abdurakhmanov, teacher I. Akaboev and I. Turdaliev organizes lectures and meetings at Osh State University.
The Department of Geography has about 10 organizations in the republic and the region (OzHydrometeo service, OzGIPROZEM, OzDAVER project, Norin-Syr Darya water basin management, MMTB, Environmental Party of Uzbekistan, Regional Council of the Democratic Party of National Revival, Analysis of Democratic Reforms mutually beneficial cooperation with about 20 of our republics and foreign HEIs and scientific research institutes and centers (such as the Russian Federation, India, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Turkey, Kyrgyzstan), editorial offices of scientific and methodical journals established relations.
of the department have also established cooperation relations with vocational schools, general secondary education schools, and schools under the administration of the Presidential Educational Institutions Agency in Namangan region. Professors-teachers of the department have been carrying out a number of scientific and methodological works as part of the "Mobile Methodological Group".
Professors-teachers, researchers-scientists of the Department of Geography also perform on TV and radio broadcasts of UzMTRK Namangan region.
Professors and teachers of the Department of Geography are consistently carrying out the tasks and implementation of the Law "On Education" of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Presidential Decrees, Decisions, and orders of the Ministry of Education and Culture.
In September 2025, the Department of Geography in Namangan will be 50 years old. The team of the department is preparing for the processes dedicated to the 50th anniversary of this activity.
