Since the establishment of Namangan State University in 1942 until 1961, there was no Faculty of Foreign Languages, so foreign languages ​​were taught under the authority of the departments of Russian and Uzbek languages.

The inter-faculty department of foreign languages ​​was first established in 1961, and as a service department, it has been teaching foreign languages, i.e. English and German, to students of all majors of the former Namangan State Pedagogical Institute (now NamSU). In 1966, the admission process for English and German language courses was started at the university, specialized departments were established, and the activity of the interfaculty foreign language department was stopped, and the hours of teachers' foreign language subjects were transferred to these departments. In 1982, the process of admission to foreign (English and German) language specialist programs was stopped, and service-providing English and German language departments were established, and professors and teachers of these departments were responsible for all educational activities of the university. During the 1980s and 1990s, English and German language classes were conducted.

In these years, the departments were headed by Malikjon Shamsiddinov, Nurmatjon Ermatov, Saidumar Saidaliyev, Nematilla Otajonov, Ranakhan Yoldasheva, Bahadir Bahromov, Yunuskhan Sadikov.

In 1991, the Department of Foreign Languages ​​was reorganized and operated until the re-opening of German and English language specialties in 1992. During this period, it was headed by Associate Professor Oktamjon Nurmatov. During 1992-1996, the professors of the English and German language departments, which are specialized departments, give foreign language lessons to students of all educational directions of the university.

By 1996, the Interfaculty Department of Foreign Languages ​​was reorganized within the Faculty of Foreign Philology of Namangan State University and operated for 14 years. By 2010, the teachers of the department and foreign language classes were added to the departments of English, German and French languages. According to the order of the Ministry of Higher and Secondary Special Education of the Republic of Uzbekistan dated August 30, 2014 On the basis of the new organizational structure of Namangan State University, in order to improve the activities and management of the university, by the decision of the university council No. 1 dated August 29, 2014 and the order of the university No. 77 V/O dated October 2, 2014, the Interfaculty German and English Department was established.

Based on the order of the Rector of the University No. 130 SH/T dated March 2, 2015, the composition of professors and teachers of the department was approved. From September 2015 to January 2021, the name of the department was the Interfaculty Department of Foreign Languages.

In order to ensure the implementation of the order of the rector of the university dated January 15, 2021 "On the establishment of departments at Namangan State University" No. On the basis of the department of foreign languages, the departments of foreign languages ​​in social and humanitarian directions and foreign languages ​​in concrete and natural directions were established and the composition of professors and teachers was approved.

From September 2023, by the decision of the university council, the department of foreign languages ​​in social and humanitarian areas was joined by the department of German and French languages. At present, E`zoza Bekmirzayevna Atamirzayeva heads the department of foreign languages ​​in social and humanitarian directions. 1 candidate of science, professor, 1 doctor of philosophy in philology and 18 full-time professors work in the department.

Today, in addition to the teaching of German, French, and English as foreign languages, the department's professors and teachers also offer Philology and Language Teaching (German language) bachelor's degree and Linguistics (German language) master's degree. Specialist personnel are being trained. Professors and teachers of the department are actively participating in the scientific-methodological, scientific-research, spiritual and educational work of the university and faculty.

The department of foreign languages ​​in socio-humanitarian directions cooperates with the Institute of Translation Studies of the Johannes Gutenberg University of Mainz, Germany, within the framework of the signed memorandum. In addition, close relations have been established with the German academic exchange service and the representative office of the Goethe Institute in Tashkent.

In order to implement fundamental reforms in the field of education in our country, the team of the department organizes the process of foreign language education on the basis of an innovative approach based on the requirements of the times. As a result, in recent years, high-potential, passionate personnel have grown up among our graduates. Among them are R. Mamatov, M. Rahmonova, S. Abdug'aniyeva. Also, today foreign language experts are required to have a C1 level national or international language certificate. Based on this demand, the students of the course regularly work on themselves and obtain national and international language certificates. U. Ganijonova, D. Hasanov, S. Yusufjonov, M. Meliboyeva, S. Abdumajidov, M. Egamberdiyeva are among them.

Almost all professors and teachers teaching specialized subjects have repeatedly received advanced training at prestigious educational institutions in Germany, India, the USA, Belgium and France and have high-level national and international language certificates.
